Who We Help
The Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund assists thousands of people every year
who face a number of situations that make them unable to make ends'
meet. 95% of those helped are elderly, disabled
or families with young children.
Rita
Rita shared her story with us upon receiving a KWWF grant to keep her
heat on. Rita explains, "Thank you Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund
friends. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude of your recent gift toward
this winter's heating bills. After 23 years of being a single parent
and working two to three jobs most of those years, I ran out of strength
when I found out the company I had worked tirelessly for was going
out of business. I live in a trailer that is nearly 50 years old
and without insulation, and the cost of propane to heat it is incredible.
Without any income for three months I couldn't pay the required amount
to lock in a lower propane price for the winter months. Being referred
to Energy Services, Inc. was a blessing. My case worker really listened
and cared, and put in an application for me for the Keep Wisconsin
Warm Fund program. Without any relatives around all these years and
no other help available, it's awesome knowing an organization is
out there not only to rebuild faith but provide miracles when they
are needed. It's not easy for a woman my age to start over but you've
confirmed to me that when we share our burdens, there really are
people who care."
Betty
Betty is a 68-year-old mother and grandmother. Despite her severe
arthritis, Betty cares for her adult son who is developmentally disabled.
Recently she has become the primary caregiver to an infant grand
daughter as well. Betty’s only income comes for Social Security
Income benefits. Without the Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund it would nearly
impossible for Betty and the children she cares for to remain in
their home. KWWF was able to offer Betty assistance so that she could
focus on caring for her family.
Robert
Robert is a 59-year-old husband and father of two. Robert is a
self-employed small business owner. Robert has never sought out
help before. The income from his business fluctuates and is unpredictable
during tough economic times. During the harsh Wisconsin winter
Robert found for the first time that he was having trouble caring
for his young family and paying the high-energy bills of the winter
season.
Stories like Betty and Robert’s are not uncommon, but they do
often go unnoticed. Pride is a major deterrent to those in need of
help receiving it. They shouldn’t have to suffer alone. Help
the Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund help your neighbors! Your donation can
be designated for use within your own community.
